CA.N3ERR.? SCHOOL OF I'.YTSIC - TEACRER OF CLARINET

The Department of Education and Science announced today that Mr David Shepherd had been appointed to the staff of the Canberra School of usic as Teacher of Clarinet.

Mr Shepherd brings to the School a wealth of experience in teaching and performance, having for the last ten ,years been principal clarinettist of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. Ins Shepherd was also a member of the staff of the Queensland Conservatorium of Lusic and special graduate tutor on clarinet at the Queensland University.

In the early period of his training Mr Shepherd

won many exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Musics studying with John Davies. He obtained his L. R. A.I< < .. Diploma in 1953.

Mr Shepherd .has also played for the British Broadcasting Commission as an orchestral player and soloist and appeared in the Wigmore Hall for the International Society for Contemporary Music.

Mr Shepherd replaces Mr Andre w McCullough who has returned to _E gland to pursue his work after four years service with the Canberra School of Music.
