Statement by the Minister for Civil Aviation Mr. R. W. Swartz

A $210,000 terminal-commercial centre is to be

built at Moorabbin airport.

The contract has been awarded to Mr. W. Grubb, of Punt Road, South Yarra, Victoria, after public tenders were called.

This was announced today by the Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr. R.W. Swartz,

Mr. Swartz said that the complex, which would be financed and developed by Mr. Grubb, would provide air conditioned office and shop space, a restaurant, bar

and motel accommodation.

Light aircraft operators based at Moorabbin, their passengers and visitors would now be able to enjoy

facilities the equivalent of those at major capital city airports.

A feature of the terminal-commercial centre will be a spectator deck at first floor level which will give visitors a viewing platform from which to watch flying operations.

Moorabbin handled more than 319,374 movements

last year, he added.

Mr. Swartz said that the complex was the forerunner of similar projects to be developed at

secondary airports serving other Australian capital cities.
