John Forrest MP, The Nationals Federal Member for Mallee officially opened the Shade Cover Project at the Minyip Primary School under the Investing in Our Schools funding programme on Wednesday 25 October at 3:00 pm.

Mr Forrest said the project involved the construction of shade cover over two major play areas of the school. “Shade structures are a must have given the extreme summertime temperatures experienced in this region,” said Mr Forrest.

“This upgrade of the playground now means students can enjoy the play equipment and bat tennis court areas in more comfort.”

Mr Forrest stated that this particular funding grant highlights the significance of the Investing in Our Schools programme. “This programme is of great benefit to schools as they can allocate funds where they need it most,” said Mr Forrest.

School Principal Mr Doug Walters thanked Mr Forrest for the funding assistance provided by the Federal Government. “We are all looking forward to enjoying our new facilities and I am sure that the students will enjoy playing in more comfort under the shade structures,” said Mr Walters.

Mr Forrest said that the school application was one of over 8,300 applications from across Australia submitted during the 2005 rounds and with the 2006 Round Three currently under way many more schools will soon be receiving this much needed assistance. “I understand that the Minyip Primary School has an application for the refurbishment of the school’s administration areas which is currently being assessed and I wish them well with this application,” said Mr Forrest.
