Senator John Tierney and Liberal Candidate for Paterson Bob Baldwin today announced that residents in Wards River and the surrounding area will now be able to lodge their Medicare claims via a dedicated Medicare easyclaim telephone booth that has been installed at Wards River General Store.

“Medicare has succeeded in streamlining the claiming process for our rural communities as well as removing the need for residents to travel excessive distances to their nearest Medicare office,” Senator Tierney said.

“This is specifically designed to assist people living in regional areas and it is envisaged that the Medicare easyclaim will fast become a popular alternative for residents needing to lodge their Medicare claims.”

The booth will enable customers to gain direct access to a Medicare service operator at the push of a button. Once connected, the operator will ask a few brief questions to get the process under way.

If customers have paid for their medical service, they will be given the option of having their benefits paid straight into their bank or credit union account by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or paid by cheque. Medicare will send a cheque for unpaid accounts.

“Medicare easyclaim is an important step in providing more services to regional communities,” Bob Baldwin said.

“Wards River residents have to travel to their nearest service town such as Gloucester for many goods and services, but today’s announcement is a step in the right direction for local people.”
