More than 5,000 Townsville Defence Force members will benefit from a $35 million boost to service allowances and conditions for ADF in North Queensland. “This is great news for our defence personnel and their families, with the announcement today that the package of locality allowances, leave and travel entitlements will be increased,” Member for Herbert Peter Lindsay said. “I asked the Minster Assisting the Minister for Defence, De-Anne Kelly, to reassess these ADF allowances, that hadn’t been changed in 30 years,” Mr Lindsay said. Minister De-Anne Kelly today thanked Member for Herbert Peter Lindsay for his representations over defence conditions and allowances. “This initiative should enhance retention among ADF members who are posted to remote locations,” Mr Lindsay said. The initiative, which begins this month, will provide for ADF in Townsville: •ADF District Allowance: $2000 a year. This is an increase of about $540 from the current level. •Leave Travel: Single members will be allowed 3 trips every two years back to their home town. Leave travel for married members with dependants will remain unchanged. The total package represents an investment of $35 million per year, bringing the total value of delivering allowances, leave and travel benefits to $80 million.
