AGED CARE APPROVALS ROUND 2006 - PLACES FOR NEW ENGLAND

Aged care services in the New England have received a boost through the announcement of additional places and capital grants under the 2006 Aged Care Approvals Round, NSW Nationals Senator Sandy Macdonald said today.

“These 83 new aged care places in the New England area comprise of both Residential Aged Care places and Community Aged Care places,” Senator Macdonald said.

“Community Aged Care places fund organisations which provide home-based care for older people,” he said.

The places and capital grants details include:

Residential Aged Care places • 10 residential low care places for Peel Nursing Home, Tamworth, • 8 residential high care places for Peel Nursing Home, Tamworth, • 2 residential low care places for Sunhaven Hostel, Ashford, • 5 residential high care places for Glenwood Gardens, Glen Innes, • 20 residential low care places for Tamworth Cottage Homes, Tamworth, • 13 residential high care places for Haddington Nursing Home, Tenterfield,

Community Aged Care places • 4 Dementia places for H N McLean Memorial Retirement Village, Inverell, • 10 Extended Aged Care at Home places for H N McLean Memorial Retirement Village, Inverell • 6 Extended Aged Care at Home places for Health Care at Home, Tamworth,

Capital Grants • $272,000 for Sunhaven Hostel, Ashford.

“These additional places will provide a great boost for the provision of aged care in the New England areas, and I will work with the Australian Government to ensure that rural and regional aged care services are of the highest standard,” Senator Macdonald said.

These places are part of the more than 8,700 places made available across the nation this year as part of the Howard Government’s plan to secure the future of aged care in Australia - both for service providers and for older people who access the services.
