Regional arts fund hits the mark

Federal Minister for the Arts and Sport, Senator Rod Kemp today announced the latest round of funding through the Commonwealth Government's Regional Arts Fund, with $96,962 allocated to 20 regional projects across Tasmania.

'Whether you live in Derby or Deloraine, Ulverstone or Cygnet, it is important that all Tasmanians have better access and opportunities to practise and experience the arts,' Senator Kemp said.

'The first round of the Regional Arts Fund Tasmania created many challenging and exciting undertakings with ongoing benefits. The latest round of projects look set to produce similar lasting outcomes.'

Successful projects include:

Roar Film, for director Rick Randell to assist people with disabilities create short films; ● Ebb and Flow our social heart , which will bring professional artists to work in partnership with the Ravenswood community to create a significant public artwork; and ●

Kaleidescape Young at Art, a collaborative project by five local councils to offer young people high quality cultural workshops. ●

'Especially during the Year of the Outback, the Regional Arts Fund is instrumental in fulfilling the Federal Government's vision of providing more arts opportunities outside capital cities, and supports the important role the arts play in regional renewal and the creation of robust dynamic communities,' Senator Kemp said.

A Commonwealth Government initiative, the Regional Arts Fund aims to support the arts in regional and remote Australia through sustainable arts partnerships and professional development for regional artists. Tasmanian Regional Arts manages the Fund in Tasmania on behalf of the Commonwealth.

Assistance is available across all art forms and the next round of funding will close in March 2003.
