Joanna Gash MP Member for Gilmore

3 April 2006-

Member for Gilmore, Joanna Gash has announced more Australian Government funding to help reduce the chance of bushfire in the Gilmore electorate.

Just weeks after $16,250 was delivered to Gilmore under the Governments Bushfire Mitigation Program, Mrs Gash has announced a further $6,000 will flow to the region.

"This money will go towards the maintenance of the Tianjara and Twelve Mile fire trails," Mrs Gash said.

"The Bushfire Mitigation Program is incredibly successful and delivers the money were it is most needed. We have all seen the devastation bushfire can cause and, unfortunately, some have felt its impact first hand.

"This program helps local rural bushfire brigades carry out the most important of tasks."

Mrs Gash was a part of the committee which produced the Nation Charred report and it, and others like it, have identified measures than can be implemented by governments, industry and the community to minimise the incidence and impact of bushfires on life, property and the environment.

"Bushfire trail maintenance is a crucial element of any fire mitigation program," Mrs Gash said.

Further information about the Bushfire Mitigation Program is available from the NSW Rural Fire Service, telephone (02) 8741 5436, via the Department of Transport and Regional Services website at or by
