Major project status for Lignor

DAFF05/201M 17 October 2005

Australian Forestry and Conservation Minister Senator Ian Macdonald has applauded a decision to grant the Engineered Strand Lumbar project of Lignor Limited in Western Australia Major Project facilitation Status.

The decision by Australian Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane comes hot on the heels of a grant of $1.361 million that I approved for the company under the Forestry Assistance Programme for Western Australia

Work done to date includes introduction of the new technology to Australia, testing of timber samples, site works, initial marketing and promotional activities, capital raising and other costs associated with the new plant.

This is an innovative project that promises to deliver big returns to the forestry industry in terms of resource maximisation.

It is great to see an Australian company creatively applying existing innovation from abroad and applying it to Australia's eucalypt plantation fibre.

When Major Project Facilitation status is granted to an enterprise, it sends a strong signal that the Government is willing to back Australian companies where they are striving for excellence and contributing to the growth of the nation.
