Federal Member for Flinders, the Hon Greg Hunt MP, was delighted to launch Telstra’s new ADSL exchange at Main Ridge this week to provide local residents from Main Ridge with faster and cheaper access to the internet.

Mr Hunt said, “People living in Main Ridge now have the choice of moving to broadband Internet—at an affordable price.”

This new exchange has been made possible through Telstra Countrywide taking up the Australian Government’s $107.8 million Higher Bandwidth Incentive Scheme (HiBIS) initiative and responding to local residents who listed their support with Telstra Countrywide for these new services to be made available to the local community.

I commend Telstra Countrywide for their support and willingness to provide these services to local residents.

The Australian Government established the $107.8 million HiBIS program in response to the Regional Telecommunications Inquiry, to improve access to and the affordability of broadband services in regional, rural and remote Australia.

HiBIS provides incentive payments to Internet service providers (ISPs) who provide eligible customers with higher bandwidth services at prices comparable with those available in metropolitan areas.

For more information on eligibility and contact details for registered HiBIS providers, follow the HiBIS link on or phone 1800 883 488.
