$1560 for Red Cliffs/Irymple RSL Sub-branch John Forrest, The Nationals Federal Member for Mallee said today he was very pleased with the latest round of announcements by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, De-Anne Kelly.

“The Red Cliffs/Irymple RSL Sub-branch was among the 10 Victorian organisations to receive a Veteran & Community Grant. They will receive $1560 to help them purchase equipment to enable the continued production of the organisation’s regular newsletter,” said Mr Forrest.

President of the Red Cliffs/Irymple RSL Sub-branch, Mr Ted Roberts said they were very happy to receive the funding. “It is really wonderful that the future of our ‘Quack & Squawk’ newsletter is now secured,” said Mr Roberts.

Mr Roberts advised that information is collected from various sources including the RSL Veterans’ Centre and Veterans’ Affairs Office in Mildura as well as the veterans’ community throughout Merbein, Robinvale, Red Cliffs and Irymple. “Every three months we circulate ‘Quack & Squawk’ throughout this whole region,” he said.

Mr Forrest encouraged veterans’ organisation to apply for funding. Projects that receive funding are wide ranging and include health education, lifestyle improvement, community activities, carer support and programmes to help veterans live more independently at home.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to our veterans and service personnel for their service and sacrifice in times of war and conflict, and their continuing contribution to our community,” Mr Forrest said.

“Through Veteran and Community Grants we are helping to repay that debt by providing practical assistance to ensure veterans, war widows and their dependants have access to a full range of community services.”

“By providing increased services and facilities to the veteran community, the benefits also flow on to the wider community.”
