JOINT STANDING COMMITTEE

ON TREATIES

 

ONGOING REVIEW OF AUSTRALIA’S INTERNATIONAL TREATY OBLIGATIONS

 

As part of its ongoing review of Australia’s international treaty obligations, the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties will hold a publi c hearing on Friday, 22 October 1999 in Committee Room 1S3, from 9am.

 

At that hearing, the Committee will take evidence on the following treaty actions:

 

·  the Treaty on Development Cooperation with the Government of Papua New Guinea;

·  the Agreement with the Government of Japan for Co-operation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy;

·  the Agreement with the Government of New Zealand concerning the Transfer of Uranium;

·  the Partial Revision of the Radio Regulations incorporated in the International Telecommunications Union Final Acts of the World Radiocommunications Conference, 1997 (WRC-97);

·  the Amendments to the Constitution and the Convention of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU);

·  the Amendments to the Convention on the International Maritime Satellite Organization (INMARSAT);

·  the Agreement with the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany on Cultural Cooperation;

·  the International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants;

·  the Agreement on Consular Relations with the People’s Republic of China; and

·  the Agreement with the Government of the People’s Republic of China on the continuation of the Australian Consular Function in the Macau Special Administrative Region.

 

This is the second group of treaties from the list of proposed treaty actions tabled in the Parliament on 12 October 1999. Evidence was taken on the first group of seven treaties at a public hearing on Monday, 18 October 1999.
