Senator the Hon. Rod Kemp Acting Minister for Finance & Administration

Appointment of Business Adviser for Scoping Study into Health Services Australia The Acting Minister for Finance and Administration, the Hon Rod Kemp MP, today announced the appointment of Arthur Andersen Corporate Finance to conduct a scoping study into the business of Health Services Australia (HSA).

HSA was established as a national incorporated Government Business Enterprise on 17 June 1997. The Company was established to provide a comprehensive range of work-related health services to clients in both the public and private sector.

The scoping study will review HSA's business and will investigate a range of options in relation to the future of the Commonwealth’s shareholding, including continued ownership in its existing or alternate forms as well as possible divestment of the Commonwealth’s interest. In undertaking the scoping study, implications associated with Government Health policy and the health industry will be considered.

Through a competitive process involving a range of corporate advisory firms, Arthur Andersen emerged as the preferred candidate.

A report is expected to be provided to the Government in May 2001. The results of the scoping study will be reviewed by the Government before any decisions on HSA’s future ownership and structure are taken.
