O'Connor Elected as First Member for Gorton MEDIA RELEASE 09 November 2004

Brendan O'Connor was elected as the first ever Member for Gorton at the 2004 general election. Achieving the highest primary vote of any Labor candidate in Victoria, Brendan promised to return the trust and confidence that the people of Gorton had given him by being an approachable, hard-working and responsive Member of Parliament.

"I wish to thank all the supporters who gave up so much of their time during the election campaign." he said

"I would not have achieved such a great result if not for their dedication and hard work."

Brendan's enthusisam was tempered by the national result.

"I'm disappointed for those hoping to see a change of government. I hope that the Government this term can see fit to pay more attention to the issues that concern us out in the West; namely health and education. I am especially disappointed for residents of Deer Park and Caroline Springs who are now unlikely to see the Deer Park Bypass for many years."
