Hon Judi Moylan MP

Minister for the Status of Women

The Minister for the Status of Women, The Hon Judi Moylan MP, today announced details of Federal Government funding to women’s non-government organisati ons (NGOs).

Mrs Moylan said 13 women’s NGOs will receive funding of $500,000 through the 1998-99 National Women’s Non-Government Organisations’ Funding Programme, administered by Office of the Status of Women. In addition more than $160,000 has been allocated to women’s NGOs through funding from other portfolios. Further funding is expected to be announced in other portfolios over the coming months.

“The Coalition Government recognises the enormous contribution made by women to our Australian community”, said Mrs Moylan.

The funding provides operational support for major national women’s organisations covering a broad cross section of community life. Recipients include groups representing women in business, ethnic women and older women as well as organisations which support single women and women’s equality before the law.

“It further strengthens the Howard Government’s demonstrated commitment to providing opportunities and real choice for women.”

“Together these organisations provide support and leadership for women. They also ensure that women in the Australian community have an effective voice in the public debate” said Mrs Moylan.
