Nominations open for prestigious Prime Minister’s awards

Communities throughout Maranoa have the opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to participants, supervisors and community groups involved with the popular Work for the Dole programme, Federal Member for Maranoa, Bruce Scott said today.

Announcing the opening of nominations in the Prime Minister’s Work for the Dole Achievement Awards, Mr Scott recognised the positive contributions that Work for the Dole makes to local communities and job seekers.

“Work for the Dole, a Mutual Obligation initiative, is a signature programme of the Coalition Government and has strong support throughout the community,” Mr Scott said.

“It provides new services and facilities valuable and work experience for participants.

“As in past years, the Awards will recognise outstanding Work for the Dole activities, participants and supervisors and importantly, continue to encourage the development of innovative and exciting activities to benefit local communities and job seekers across Australia,” he said.

The Award categories are: • Best Work for the Dole Participant—the participant who developed their work skills and/or those of others and who contributed to their activity’s success: national winner and two finalists.

• Best Work for the Dole Activity—an overall winner will be selected from activities that operated during 2003 in the following four finalist categories: Caring for People; Caring for our Community; Caring for our Environment; and Caring for our Heritage.

• Best Work for the Dole Supervisor—the supervisor who has demonstrated strong support for Work for the Dole participants and an activity throughout 2003 and forged links with the community to enhance the activity’s success: national winner and two finalists.

Any member of the public can nominate a Work for the Dole activity, participant or supervisor who has been involved with a Work for the Dole activity during 2003.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from or by phoning the Work for the Dole hotline on 13 62 68.
