John Forrest, The Nationals Federal Member for Mallee will launch a new Green Corps Holistic Landscape Protection project in Mildura on Friday 23 July 2004.

“This is a great opportunity for the 10 young people involved in the project which will involve a variety of activities in various locations including private land, Trust for Nature properties and Crown Land.”

The participants have already been active over the last few weeks with fencing, tree planting, salinity bores and some minor repairs. They will continue with tree planting, direct seeding, sign erection, track construction, bird perch and nesting hole construction, fencing and weed control.

Mr Forrest said “at the end of this initiative these young people will have an increased understanding of environmental issues in the Mallee, improved leadership skills, communication skills, self confidence and self esteem.”

“As can be seen in previous Green Corp projects, our ability to work together provides us with positive outcomes, particularly for the participants and the community who will benefit from environmental improvements provided by this project.

This Green Corps team will be working in conjunction with a number of agencies including the Department of Primary Industries, Mildura Rural City Council/Greening Australia, Mallee CMA and Land Care groups,” Mr Forrest said.

LAUNCH DETAILS - 11:00 am at the Psycke Pumps near the river.
