The Landsborough Highway will benefit from an injection of funds from the Federal Government's National Highway Program, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Transport and Regional Services, Senator the Hon Ron Boswell, announced today.

The re-sealing works will take place 8km to 32km from Longreach, on the Longreach - Winton section of the Landsborough Highway, Senator Boswell said.

Senator Boswell said that the works awarded to the shire are worth over $202,000.

"The good news for the local community, apart from better roads, is that the Longreach Shire Council will undertake a portion of these works".

"This can only be good for local jobs and the local economy", Senator Boswell said.

Senator Boswell said that the funding was addition to money provided to local councils under the landmark Roads to Recovery Program.

"The Federal Government continues to support regional Australia through its programs, and with the additional support for local roads, is directing 85 per cent of its annual roads budget to non-urban areas", Senator Boswell said.

The works are expected to take 3 months to complete.
