GRAHAM RICHARDSON COMMENTS ON EMPLOYMENT 2010

e&oe.....................................................................................................................................

Yesterday the Labor Party released an employment blueprint for the next 10 years if it was to win government.  It was entitled Workforce 2010.  Kim Beazley and Cheryl Kernot released it.  I’ve got to say though there didn’t seem to be all that much in it.  Heather Ridout, the Policy Director of the Australian Industry Group, said “I don’t think you’ll get companies handing over a lot of commercial-in-confidence about where we’re headed” adding employers were not likely to spend on training unless it lined up with commercial realities.  And I think while there is a lot of nice platitudes and all the rest of it in that policy you wonder if anything the Labor Party did yesterday was worth one vote.  It’s got almost no publicity, it’s disappeared in less than one day.  Doesn’t seem to me to be all that flash if people can’t focus on it for 24 hours.
