MEDIA RELEASE Senator the Hon Sandy Macdonald Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence Deputy Leader of The Nationals in the Senate

NSW Nationals Senator Sandy Macdonald has today congratulated Challenge Armidale Ltd, which has been awarded the 2006 Minister’s Award for Excellence for Employers of Australian Apprentices.

The awards have been presented by the Federal Minister for Vocational and Technical Education, the Hon. Gary Hardgrave.

“Challenge Armidale is one of 22 organisations across Australia which have been recognised for their role in supporting the training and career development through Australian Apprenticeships,” Senator Macdonald said.

Challenge provides a valuable service for our local community including accommodation support services and supported employment for the disabled.

“I congratulate them on this prestigious award,” Senator Macdonald said.

Australian Apprenticeships provide employers with workers trained specifically for their business and offer Australian Apprentices flexible, competency-based training in over 500 occupations in almost any industry.

Employers of Australian Apprentices gain access to a free service from Australian Apprenticeships Centres which assist with the sign-up, administration and information on available incentives and benefits.

The Australian Government is committed to ensuring that a qualification in a trade is as valued as any gained at university. Awards such as these reward the contribution of employers in highlighting the value of Australian Apprenticships.
