Martin Welcomes New Defence Executive Appointments Stephen Martin - Shadow Minister for Defence

Media Statement - 30 May 2000

Shadow Minister for Defence, Stephen Martin, has today welcomed the announcement by Admiral Barrie of three new Defence Executive appointees.

"On behalf of my Labor Parliamentary colleagues, I congratulate Major General Simon Willis on his appointment as Head of Defence Personnel Executive; Commodore Brian Adams on his promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral upon taking up the position as Head of Joint Education and Training; and Air Vice-Marshall Allan (Angus) Houston on his appointment as the Head of Strategic Command.

"I would also like to thank Major General Peter Dunn for his contributions as Head of Defence Personnel Executive and wish him well with his involvement in the merger of Defence Acquisition Organisation with Support Command from July 1.

"This is an exciting time to be part of the Defence Executive in the wake of the East Timor deployment and with the forthcoming release of the Defence White Paper which will map out the future directions for the ADF.

"I am confident that these new senior officers will make a significant contribution and provide valuable advice to the Minister on important issues confronting the ADF.

"I wish the new members of the team the best of luck and look forward to continuing the good working relationship with all sections of the Defence Executive," Mr Martin said.
