Hon Greg Hunt MP, Federal Member for Flinders, was delighted to announce that the Hastings Train Station will soon be cleaned-up thanks to a local Green Corps project sponsored by the Commonwealth Government.

The initial works are set to begin in late September and will include revegetation, weed eradication and litter removal, along with the possible establishment of park benches and improvements to paths and roads.

“Work on the Hastings Railway Station site is expected to commence in mid September 2005 and would not have been possible without the wonderful support of the Mornington Peninsula Shire Council, VicTrack, Connex and bipartisan support at the State level”.

“This is an excellent example of the community coming together to help unlock the potential of a significant historical site located right in the centre of Hastings”, Mr Hunt said.

“The current Green Corps project is the first step of a long term goal to revitalise the entire Hastings Railway Station site. A revitalised Hastings Railway Station will boost civic pride and provide visitors to the township with a positive first impression of our local community”.

“The Hastings Train Station site has been neglected for far too long and I would like to congratulate all those involved in the current project for all their hard work and vision. Particularly, local resident Garry Mitchell who helped initiate the project”, Mr Hunt said.
