Minister to consult Victorian industry groups

Federal Forestry and conservation Minister Senator Ian Macdonald will tomorrow commence a four-day program to visit key industry regions and organisations in NSW and Victoria.

Senator Macdonald said a number of emerging issues, along with the joint announcement of funding allocations to industry in the regions, had prompted the visits.

Meetings in Victoria will comprise the second leg of the trip, with Senator Macdonald to consult with forest industry groups and the State’s Environment and Conservation Minister, Sherryl Garbutt.

“Central to my discussions with the Victorian Government will be seeking progress towards Comprehensive Adequate Representative Reserve Systems that balances forest conservation while providing for jobs,” Senator Macdonald said.

Senator Macdonald, who is also Federal Minister responsible for Commonwealth fisheries, will also use the opportunity while in Victoria to visit the Melbourne Fish Markets and the Abalone Farm at Avalon.

Senator Macdonald’s itinerary is as follows:
