MEDIA RELEASE Senator the Hon Sandy Macdonald Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence Deputy Leader of The Nationals in the Senate

The installation of a memorial in the RSL Park in Delungra is a step closer with $4,000 funding from the Australian Government, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence, Senator Sandy Macdonald announced today.

“This funding, under the Australian Government’s Saluting Their Service program, will help with the construction of a memorial dedicated to veterans from the district who served during World War II and in Malaysia and Vietnam,” Senator Macdonald said.

“This is a wonderful example of how the community can raise awareness of the local men and women who have served their country,” he said.

“I congratulate the Delungra RSL Women’s Auxiliary for applying for this funding.”

“The Saluting Their Service program allows local community organisations to commemorate the sacrifices that have been made by so many men and women, who have served in wars, conflicts and in peace-time operations,” Senator Macdonald said.

Projects supported under Saluting Their Service include the restoration of community war memorials, displays of wartime memorabilia and commemoration of significant wartime anniversaries.

Senator Macdonald said memorials and displays like the proposed project at Delungra aim to raise community awareness of the service and sacrifice of those who have served Australia.

“It’s projects like these that help keep the history of our nation alive,” he said.
