MEDIA RELEASE Senator the Hon Sandy Macdonald Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Defence Deputy Leader of The Nationals in the Senate


NSW Nationals Senator Sandy Macdonald has welcomed the announcement of funding for two groups in the Hunter region, which have received funding under the Local Answers program.

“The Local Answers initiative enables local community groups to develop programs which address social issues within the region,” Senator Macdonald said.

Programs which have gained funding in Hunter electorate include:

• $138,065 (over three years) for The Collaborative Partnerships Project. This will allow for partnerships to develop between Non-Government and Government services to strengthen and better coordinate service delivery to rural families in the Muswellbrook, Scone, Merriwa and Murrurundi areas.

• $160,000 (over three years) for Clear Waters program to assist Aboriginal communities in developing a culturally appropriate relationship skills program for Indigenous Prisoners in the Cessnock and Muswellbrook region prisons.

“I am pleased to see these projects being funded and the community taking the initiative to develop programs which will combat local problems,” Senator Macdonald said.

“The Nationals in Government are committed to ensuring that all sections of the community are supported.”

“The Australian Government has provided $20 million to community projects across Australia in the latest Local Answers round. This forms part of the $490 million Stronger Families and Communities Strategy,” he said.
