Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal Appointments  I am pleased to announce the appointment by the Governor-General of Commissioner Adrian John Dangerfield and Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Franklin Cox AO (Retd) to the Defence Force Remuneration Tribunal (DFRT), each for a term of approximately 2½ years.

The DFRT is established by the Defence Act 1903 as the body responsible for the determination of salaries, allowances in the nature of salary and other prescribed matters relating to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Commissioner Dangerfield has been appointed to the DFRT as the member experienced in industrial relations matters. He is a concurrent appointee to the Australian Industrial Relations Commission from the Industrial Relations Commission of South Australia. He has extensive experience in industrial relations matters arising from his State tribunal appointment, as well as his previous employment with Business SA (formerly the South Australian Employers Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc) and the South Australian Department of Labour.

AVM Cox is currently the ex-ADF member of the DFRT, having been appointed in that role last year. His initial appointment to the DFRT was made in 1999 and his re-appointment has the strong support of the ADF.

I would also like to record the Government’s appreciation for the work of Deputy President Patricia Leary, whose term of appointment to the DFRT as the member experienced in industrial relations matters will expire in August.

Members of the ADF at all levels recognise the significant contribution Deputy President Leary has made to the DFRT. In particular, I highlight her commitment to the achievement of fair outcomes for members of the ADF; for example, her involvement with the Flying Allowance, Submarine Service Allowance, Seagoing Allowance and ADF Enterprise Arrangements.
