Mobile phone coverage around Bermagui has just become significantly better following the launch today of a new transmission tower.

Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, Gary Nairn, conducted the official honours during a function at the Bermagui Country Club with Telstra Country Wide General Manager, David Gunsberg.

Mr Nairn said it was great news for the Bermagui community to receive the communications boost.

“The new tower incorporates both digital CDMA and GSM technologies,” he said.

“Improved mobile coverage in Bermagui will have a very positive impact on business and residents.

“It will help modernise telecommunications services in the town and provide real benefits.”

The tower has been funded as part of the Federal Government’s $50.5 million Regional Mobile Phone program is one of the key responses to the Telecommunications Service Inquiry.

Mr Nairn said several other locations throughout Eden-Monaro will receive new mobile phone coverage in the coming months.

“Telstra advise that Tathra, Adaminaby, Candelo, Moruya Heads, Mossy Point/Broulee, Tomakin and Captains Flat are all expected to have new services operational by the end of the year.
