Commonwealth audit into Papunya

Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Finance and Administration Dr Sharman Stone MP who is responsible for the Office of Evaluation and Audit (Indigenous Programs) has asked them to conduct an evaluation/audit of the Commonwealth funded programs at Papunya.

The matters were referred to Dr Stone from the Minister for Immigration, and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs, Senator Amanda Vanstone and the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, Mr Kevin Andrews following allegations in the media and other forums about funding management in the Papunya community.

“The review will take six to eight weeks following the appointment of consultants through normal tender processes,” Dr Stone said.

“The review will consider all Commonwealth funded programs at Papunya, including the Community Development Employment Projects (CDEP).”

Dr Stone said the Papunya Community Council would be invited to respond to the evaluation/audit once it was completed.

“Following this process, the report and any recommendations will be given to Minister Vanstone and Minister Andrews for their consideration,” Dr Stone said.
