The Nationals Federal Member for Mallee, John Forrest announced today that the local veteran community would benefit from a $1,529 grant to the Red Cliffs/Irymple Sub/Branch of the Returned Services League of Australia under the Australian Government’s Saluting Their Service commemorations programme.

Mr Forrest said the grant would help the club with the cost of purchasing and installing a reverse cycle air conditioner for use at the Sub-branches Museum to help preserve its wartime memorabilia.

“Over the years, I’ve given strong support to this museum and this project will ensure that their memorabilia will be kept safe and held for future generations,” said Mr Forrest.

Mr Ted Roberts, President of the Red Cliffs/Irymple Sub Branch RSL said they were very appreciative of the Government awarding the funds. “We are a small sub branch and we rely heavily on Government support - we still hold our raffles and things to keep our sub branch going week to week,” said Mr Roberts.

Mr Roberts said they have hopes to extend the memorabilia room in the future and are looking to apply for further funds to help that come to fruition.

Mr Forrest advised that in addition to the Saluting Their Service commemorations programme groups should also consider applying for Veteran and Community Grants which provided a range of support for community activities to promote healthy lifestyles, help veterans live independently at home, and support carers.

He encouraged interested community groups to contact Trevor Moulds of the Veterans’ Affairs Mildura on 5021 2637 for further information about these programmes.
