Federal Member for Wannon, David Hawker, today celebrated with Stawell Primary School the completion of their $50,000 ICT upgrade.

Stawell Primary School received $50,000 under the Federal Government’s Investing in Our Schools Programme. This funding has allowed the school to complete a school computer laboratory, which will improve integration of technology and curriculum delivery to all students.

Stawell Primary School has also received advice that they have been successful in 2006’s Round Three of the Programme. A further $95,677 has been approved for the construction of a shade structure at the school.

“This Programme has now injected a massive $8.6 million into local schools IN Western Victoria for projects which the school communities themselves have identified as a priority,” Mr Hawker said.

“I congratulate Stawell Primary School, the teachers, parents, students and friends, on their initiative in applying for this funding to make the school an even better place to learn,” he said.

Mr Hawker said that by focusing on delivering small-scale projects that have been identified as a priority by school communities, the Australian Government is providing local communities with a voice to determine what they think is important for their schools.

Government school communities are able to apply for funding for such projects as air-conditioning, shade structures, computer equipment and upgrades, musical and sporting equipment.

Mr Hawker said funding under the Programme is in addition to the nearly $1.7 billion provided by the Australian Government to support government school capital works projects undertaken by State and Territory Governments.
