Linfox And K&S Freighters Declared Eligible To Apply For Self Insurance Licence Under Comcare

The Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations has made declarations making Linfox Australia Pty Ltd,

Linfox Armaguard Pty Ltd and K&S Freighters Pty Ltd eligible to apply for self insurance licences under the

Commonwealth’s workers compensation scheme, Comcare.

Both Linfox and K&S Freighters satisfy the eligibility criteria as stipulated in section 100(c) of the SRC Act and were

deemed to be carrying on business in competition with a Commonwealth authority or with another corporation that

was previously a Commonwealth authority.

Linfox and K&S Freighters can now make an application to the Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission

for a licence to self insure under the Comcare scheme.

As previously stated, the Australian Government is committed to furthering national consistency and clarity in

workers’ compensation matters through the newly established Australian Safety Compensation Council (ASCC). The

ASCC includes representatives from Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments, as well as employer and

employee groups and provides a new opportunity to co-ordinate workers’ compensation on a national level.

The States have previously objected to companies seeking to leave their schemes and self-insure through Comcare.

Therefore the onus is clearly on them to work together with the Australian Government through the ASCC, to put in

place consistent and uniform self insurance arrangements across their schemes, said Minister Andrews.
