Reappointment to Artbank Board


The Federal Minister for the Arts, Senator Richard Alston, toda y announced the reappointment of two members to the Artbank Board for a further two-year term.


‘The Government is very pleased that Ms Karilyn Brown and Mr John Stringer will continue to bring their significant experience and expertise to the Artbank Board,’ Senator Alston said.


Ms Brown is the Manager of Cultural Programs, Sydney Cultural Olympiad, which produced the inaugural Festival of the Dreaming , and recently launched the second festival Sea Change .


Mr Stringer is the Curator of the Kerry Stokes Art Collection in Perth and former Senior Curator at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. He is also the author of a book on Western Australian artists.


Artbank was established in 1980 to promote quality Australian contemporary art through its art rental scheme, and to support Australian artists, particularly young and emerging artists by acquiring their work for the Artbank collection.


Access to Artbank’s collection of more than 8,000 works is available to both private sector and government clients and through Australian Embassies and High Commissions also overseas.


‘Artbank is making an important contribution to the support and promotion of Australia’s young and emerging visual artists and the contemporary art scene,’ Senator Alston said.


‘Ms Brown and Mr Stringer will work with the other Board members, Chairman David Keeling, Ann Lewis, Margot Capp, Ron Hurley and Alexandra Joel, to expand on this success.
