Families in the Portland and Ararat areas will benefit from a reallocation of outside school hours care places.

Member for Wannon - David Hawker - said the 45 places would be allocated to Portland Leisure and Aquatic Centre After Care and the Ararat YMCA After School Care Programme.

Mr. Hawker said 15 of the places would go to Portland and 30 to Ararat.

He said the Ararat YMCA would also get a $4,080 local area subsidy.

“These subsidies are provided to eligible school-aged services in rural and regional areas to help with operational costs,” Mr. Hawker said.

“This latest subsidy now brings the total received in the south west to over $150,000.

“Outside School Hours Care is a great option for many parents with school age children.

“Many families use these services to help them balance the demands of work and family.

“The Federal Government is determined to provide families with the choice of quality, yet affordable child care so they can take part economically and socially in the community.”

Mr. Hawker said the government would continue to provide families with a diverse range of child care options.

Release Ends.
