The Donald RSL Sub-branch will replace fifty commemorative wooden crosses located at the Donald Ex-service Nursing Home with the help of a $2350 grant under the Australian Government’s commemorations programme, Saluting Their Service.

The Federal Member for Mallee, John Forrest welcomed the funding announcement approved by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, Danna Vale.

“The wooden crosses, which represent fifty servicemen from Donald and surrounding district who died in war, have deteriorated over time and the funds will be used to replace them with metal crosses.”

“The Donald Sub-branch is to be congratulated on its initiative and I am pleased the Minister has been able to lend the Government’s support,” Mr Forrest said.

“Saluting Their Service encourages the community to remember and honour the contribution made by Australians who have served in wars, conflicts and peace operations since Federation.”

Projects supported have included the restoration and construction of community war memorials, displays of wartime memorabilia and commemoration of significant wartime anniversaries.

More information about Saluting Their Service and grant applications forms are available by contacting the office of Mr Forrest on 1300 131 620.
