Federal Member for Mallee Andrew Broad has again called for the National School Chaplaincy Program to be funded in the upcoming budget after receiving more than 40 letters from Wimmera Mallee and Mildura locals calling for support.

Mr Broad addressed the parliament yesterday to vouch his ongoing support for the program.

“I have written to the Minister for Education and Training, Simon Birmingham and passed on multiple letters,

The program is about working with the students, giving them someone to talk to or someone who’s in their corner when they’re going through difficult times,” Mr Broad said.

Of the 119 schools in the Electorate of Mallee, Mr Broad says majority of them are already stressed in their budget as is, but one of the programs they are very passionate about is the chaplaincy program.

“It is so worthwhile…when you are a country student there often aren’t these kinds of services available, the chaplaincy program must be funded in the next budget.”
