PRESS RELEASE

THE HON. TONY ABBOTT MHR, LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION FEDERAL MEMBER FOR WARRINGAH

STATEMENT ON PREFERENCES

I have directed the Liberal Party to preference the Greens below Labor in all 150 House of Representatives seats.

It is critical for Australia's future that we have a return to strong, stable and accountable government. But that will not occur if there is a continuation of Labor-Greens minority government.

Minority government is an experiment that has comprehensively failed.

The risk at this election is another Labor-Greens minority government just like the one we’ve had for the past three years.

Another hung parliament with the Greens and Labor sharing power just means more uncertainty, more debt, more taxes, less jobs and more unexpected hits on you and your family.

Under no circumstances will I allow the Coalition to enter into a minority government arrangement.

Kevin Rudd has refused to make that same commitment. That means a vote for Labor is a vote for continuing uncertainty.

Today I challenge Mr Rudd to commit to preferencing the Greens below the Coalition. A failure to make this commitment will demonstrate that Mr Rudd is prepared to continue sharing power with the Greens.

And that means more uncertainty, more debt, more taxes, less jobs and more unexpected hits on you and your family.
