Digest of Bill
Purpose To include references to 'her' and 'she' after 'his' and 'he' in the Parliamentary Presiding Officers Act 1965 (the Principal Act).
Background The presence of references to only male titles in the Principal Act was called into doubt following the appointment of Mrs Joan Childs to the position of Speaker in February 1986. She was the first female Presiding
Officer.
Main Provisions Clause 2 will amend section 3 of the Principal Act to include a reference to 'her' after 'his', and 'she' after 'he', where ever occurring in the section.
Section 4 of the Principal Act will be amended in the same manner by clause 3.
