Senator WHEELDON (Western AustraliaMinister for Repatriation and Compensation) - For reasons that I think have been dealt with already in debate both here and in another place, the Government is not prepared to accept this amendment. We believe that legislation of this sort should have primacy over any legislation relating to mining, such as the Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act. The amendment is not acceptable to the Government.

Question put:

That the words proposed to be added (Senator Durack's amendment) be added.
