Senator GUILFOYLE (Victoria) -Mr President,I seek leave to make a short statement on the report that has just been tabled.

The PRESIDENT -Is leave granted? There being no dissent, leave is granted.

Senator GUILFOYLE - Mr President,I welcome the opportunity to have placed before the Senate a report setting out the work that has been done to date by the Planning and Research Section of the Department of the Media. As the Minister for the Media (Senator Douglas McClelland) has said, the subject of this report is a complex problem. I believe that many honourable senators would wish to have an opportunity to discuss this matter at a more appropriate time. I am interested to see in the report the views which have been expressed about public access, accountability and participation in the media. I am also interested to see reference to a series of unresolved problems which the report specifies in chapter 5. For the reasons that I have mentionedthe interest in this matter and the obvious detail which has been placed before us- I should like to have an opportunity to discuss this report at some other time
