Senator Sir MAGNUS CORMACK -I direct a question to the Minister for Customs and Excise. He will be aware that there has been a report in a newspaper of a disturbing circumstance in the Narcotics Bureau. Will he consider making a statement to the Senate? I refresh the Minister's mind by saying that it was reported in yesterday morning's metropolitan newspapers that a senior officer of the Narcotics Bureau had been taken in to charge as a result of some peculiarities in his bank account.

Senator MURPHY - I will consider whether a statement should be made. As the honourable senator would be aware, whenever proceedings are taken against any person there are a number of matters to be considered. Perhaps it is sufficient to say that the administration of Customs in this and other respects has been quite vigilant.
