Senator WITHERS (Western AustraliaLeader of the Opposition) - The Opposition does not oppose this motion. The Opposition members of the Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs have informed me that it is a sensible proposal. An extension of the time for this Committee to meet will mean that the members of the Committee will be able to make certain that their colleagues are better informed on the provision in the Bill. I think it is a very sensible way of handling this Bill, which to many of the non-lawyer members of the Senate is a very complex piece of legislation. The better informed we are, the better we will be able to exercise a free vote on it.
