Senator PRIMMER (VICTORIA) - I ask: Has the AttorneyGeneral seen a report published in a Melbourne weekly newspaper of 10 August which alleges that the former Attorney-General, Senator Greenwood, ordered investigations by the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation intoamong myself and others- two of his party colleagues, namely, Mr Killen and Mr Chipp? If so, can the Attorney-General verify the authenticity of the allegations?

Senator MURPHY -I understand that the reference is to an article which appeared in the Melbourne 'Truth' and referred to certain documents. One document purports to have been initiated by the former Attorney-General and one purports to have been a letter from the DirectorGeneral of the Austraiian Security Intelligence Organisation to the former Attorney-General. I have investigated the matter. On the information which I have, it should be made quite clear that the documents are not authentic. There is no substance whatever in the suggestion that that document was sent by the former Attorney-General or that answer was sent to the then AttorneyGeneral by the Director-General of the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation.
