Senator YOUNG (SOUTH AUSTRALIA) -I direct a question to the Attorney-General. Is it a fact that no South Australian has ever been appointed to the High Court? Does the Attorney-General agree that South Australia has people of outstanding ability in the legal profession? As there is currently a vacancy on the High Court bench, will he give serious consideration to the appointment of a South Australian to the High Court? I appreciate that this comment has been passed previously in another area.

Senator MURPHY -The Government and I have the greatest respect for the quality of the judiciary and those engaged in the legal profession in South Australia. No doubt, when any appointments are being considered, the capacity and the talents of those in South Australia whether they be on the bench or otherwise engaged in the legal profession will not be overlooked.
