Senator Sir KENNETH ANDERSON -Has the attention of the Minister representing the Minister for Health been drawn to a statement attributed to the Victorian Chairman of the Australian College of Health Surveys, Mr Brian Hicks, who is reported to have said that there is a real danger that milk in cartons may be causing sickness in the community? Having regard to the seriousness of this by implication, particularly in relation to the very young, will the Minister give consideration, without prejudice to judgment, to having the matter referred to the National Health and Medical Research Council for examination and report to the Minister and possibly subsequent report to the Senate?

Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) - I saw the remarks of Mr Hicks and in fact I referred them to my colleague the Minister for Health to see whether he had anything to say about them. Unfortunately I have not heard from my colleague at this stage but I most assuredly will take up with the Minister for Health the suggestion of Senator Sir Kenneth Anderson who, of course, was Minister for Health in the previous Government.
