Senator MULVIHILL - My question is directed to the Minister representing the Minister for Social Security. Did the Minister not think it regrettable that Medical Benefits Fund of Australia Ltd and the Hospitals Contribution Fund of Australia did not participate in the recent medical fees inquiry to defend the rights of fund contributors?

Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) - I did not know that those two organisations did not take part in the inquiry regarding social insurance. If they did not- and I assume from the honourable senator's statement that they did not- I would think, because of the large number of contributors to those funds, it is a great pity that they did not contribute the information that they could have contributed to such an inquiry.
