Senator Douglas McClelland (NEW SOUTH WALES) asked the Minister representing the Minister for Shipping and Transport, upon notice:

(1)   Has a standing committee of Commonwealth Departments, for the purpose of establishing a coastal surveillance service, been appointed in accordance with the Minister's press statement of 26th January 1972?

(2)   If so,

(a)   when was the committee appointed, and

(b)   who are the members?

Senator COTTON - The Acting Minister for Shipping and Transport has provided the following answers:

(1)   Yes.

(2)   (a) on 25th January, by the Prime Minis ter;

(b)   the committee comprises representatives of the Departments of Shipping and Transport (Chairman), Treasury, Navy, Civil Aviation, Primary Industry and Customs and Excise.
