Senator PEARCE - The answers to the honorable senator's questions are -

1.   No. The correspondents referred to should not be ashamed to sign their names to any statements they may forward for insertion in newspapers at a time when it is of the highest importance, not only to a candidate for Parliament, but also to the public generally, that only the truth be published.

2.   It will be a matter for the consideration of the newspaper management as to who shall sign the report and how they shall comply with the law.

3.   It is not at present intended to issue any regulations.
