Senator McDOUGALL (NEW SOUTH WALES) asked the Min ister of Defence, upon notice -

1.   Is it a fact that, at the practical examination of applicants for the Administrative and Instructional Staff held last June, candidates for the Infantry Arm were compelled by the President of the Examining Board, Lieut. -Col. Sellheim, to undergo examination in Light Horse Drill, and similarly, that candidates for Light Horse were examined in Infantry Duties?

2.   Do not Military Orders 384 of 1909, and 144 of 1910, make it clear that examination in the drill of both arms was compulsory only where a candidate applied for both arms?

3.   Have any of the candidates who failed through Lieut.-Col. Sellheim's action in this respect appealed against such action?

4.   If so, have all such appeals or re-appeals been received from the District Commandants concerned ?

5.   If not, is it usual for District Commandants to adjudicate in such matters?
