The CHAIRMAN - Is leave granted? There being no objection, leave is granted.

Dr PATTERSON - I thank you, Mr Chairman, and I thank the Committee. I refer to sections 18 and 20 of the principal Act. It is considered that the simple metric conversion proposed to be made by the Schedule to the Bill in its present form is unsatisfactory. Firstly, it results in prescribing an incongruous amount - $183.72 - as one of the penalties. Secondly, it is not entirely clear that the penalty applies in respect of a quantity of wheat that is less than 1 tonne. The second amendment corrects certain errors in the cross reference in the principal Act as proposed to be amended by the Bill.
