Mr HURFORD (ADELAIDE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA) -I direct my question to the Postmaster-General. What is the current position concerning the establishment within the PostmasterGeneral's Department of a courier service competitive with the services being offered outside his Department?

Mr Lionel Bowen (KINGSFORD-SMITH, NEW SOUTH WALES) - For some time the Australian Post Office has been anxious to enter the business conducted by courier services. There is some restriction in the Act because of a requirement that every article be deemed to be posted. On that point there is some difficulty in being able to establish a courier service. I hope that during this session the Act will be amended to overcome this defect.
